He was an outstanding personality and also a supreme popular leader. His genius lay in understanding that among the people was a profound revolutionary spirit which only waited to be called upon to ensure victory. He was very conscious of the nature of bargain with the British, his uncompromising attitude made him "number one enemy". In 1921 Subhas Chandra Bose returned to India from England resigning from his princely career. After resigning his post in the Indian Civil Service, Subhas threw himself heart and soul under the lead and guide of Chittaranjan Das.
